HISTORY
Fr. Antony Simo once a De La Salle Brother, received a request letter from Bro. Vincent Joseph, asking him to find a place for De La Salle Brothers in India. Fr. Simo impressed upon the abilities of De La Salle Brothers pleaded with the Archbishop to hand over the property at Nagamalai, Madurai to the De La Salle Brothers. This is how the Divine Providence brought De La Salle Brothers to India - which was their Second Coming.

De La Salle Brothers took over the management of the institution in 1961. The first Director was Bro. Alban Patrick, Mr. Ulrick Pleasuer was the architect. Eastern Construction Company, which did the construction of Pandian Hotel at Madurai, did the construction work of Boys' Town.

Bro. Ealred who succeeded Bro. Alban as Director, had to make frequent trips to Europe to raise funds. Depending on the flow of funds, the Boys' Town began to take shape. In 1967, four cottages were ready and they were declared open by Apostolic Internuncio James Knox. What was started with 25 boys depending on Loyola Technical School for training of the inmates, has now four government recognized trades - Carpentry, Welder, Turner and Electrical Technician and has so far trained over 1,800 boys in 40 years. There are 8 cottages with 90 boys who take training every year.

MISSION STATEMENT
The Community Goal
Renewing our Fidelity to Christ and to the Gospel values in the midst of the poor and young, living with us.

Mission Statement
Preamble
"I am convinced that, since young people today are looking for meaning in their lives, they will feel attracted to unite themselves to men who live out a life with meaning, men who have discovered God as absolute, men who live deeply and joyfully their own vocation of preferential service to the poor, men who are able to accompany young people in their ambiguous but sincere search for meaning".     -Pastoral Letter of Superior General - Dec 2000

Guiding Principle
"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach the good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favour. Lk. 4:18-19.

Proclamation of our Mission
" ACTION FOR JUSTICE THROUGH EDUCATION OF THE POOREST OF THE POOR "

Objectives
a) To provide a happy family atmosphere in which abandoned and destitute boys can develop their personalities, accept     their responsibilities and enjoy their ordered liberty.
b) To provide these boys with the basic academic education that will make it possible for them under careful guidance to     master technical and agricultural skills, thus withdrawing them effectively from the life of casual labour and         unemployment, which would otherwise have been theirs.
c) To contribute through these aims to the well-being of India, making available to her skilled technicians and agriculturists     and above all, citizens with a deep seated sense of their civic and social duties.
