priorities of the poorest affected Tsunami Victims in
Nagapattinam, especially the women and children and

An alarming event made 26th December 2004 a black day
in the history of humankind it turned the world's attention
for its sympathy and support from the innumerable countries
that never took place before in South East and South
Asia sub continents.
Nagapattinam is one of the most affected towns in Tamil
Nadu by Tsunami. It is situated towards East coast of
Bay of Bengal. It is about 450 K.M. from Madras city.
Lasalle Kadalisai in Nagapattinam is a branch office
of the Society of Lasalle Brothers. Lasalle Kadalisai,
a community of Delasalle Brothers is established to
respond to the direct needs of the people affected by
this catastrophe. As we are all aware that an unprecedented
natural calamity bearing the name "tsunami"
struck the eastern coast of Tamilnadu ravaging the whole
economy of the region. People in multitudes including
men, women and children became the victims for the fatal
waves. The devastation of human lives and the assets
numbered high that no one could ever anticipate it.
Many children were orphaned, women left widowed and
men became widowers. Their whole lives were left stranded
and could not even see to their livelihood opportunities.
They hungered for food, shelter and clothing especially
in Nagapattinam District where it was reported that
huge level of devastation took place. It is in this
situation, Lasalle Kadalisai entered with the main thrust
to safeguard women and children with their livelihood
opportunities.
As our post Tsunami response we distributed
relief materials to the affected people and gradually
moved on to stretch out our hands to the lives of women
and children through the formation of Community based
organizations (Self Help Group) Day care centre for
the children under 3 years old and Tuition Centers for
the children under the age 16 years. The benevolent
service to these people in 15 coastal villages of Nagapattinam
District begets goodwill to the institution.
Vision:
"To Rebuild and Restore the lives of Tsunami affected
people towards a better future". And empower then
towards self - reliance
Mission:
"To rehabilitate the Tsunami affected people by
means of developing livelihood opportunities and supporting
children's education, in Nagapattinam Districts in Tamilnadu".
