HISTORY
Muthu Chippi,
meaning 'PEARL', is the home for the economically
poor and difficult children. It was started in
the year 1976 in order to take care of the poor
dropout children studying in St. Lasalle School.
Students from Ramnad District and rural areas
around Tuticorin district, live in this home.
Their economical condition is very poor. Many
are orphans and some are children of single parents.
In 1984, a new building was built with the help
of the government for these children. The building
was originally built for 100 students and is equiped
with two dormitaries and two halls for study.
In 1994, on seeing the boys eating outside without
proper place, Bro. Noel, the Director of SECOLI
immediately contributed money for putting up a
dinning hall.

LIFE OF THE INMATES
Now there are 260 students living in the building. The life
of the students in this place is very simple and serene. Much
importance is given for spiritual growth of the students.
The Brothers pay a very special attention to these difficult
children being with them in all their joys, sorrows and needs.
One of the important strengths of this home is that it comprises
of the students from different caste, religion and areas.
The students live in union with love inspite of lots of differences.
They are more responsible in all aspects especially in studies
and self discipline.

FAITH LIFE
The secret behind the peaceful life inside the campus is the
prayer life of the students. If the students are happy in
spite of their difficulties, it is because of their total
TRUST in the Lord. Each one's religion is respected and the
students are free to follow their own religious faith. The
Catholics attend Holy Mass every morning in the nearby Parish
Church and the Hindu students visit the temple and pray. In
the evening all the students gather for 20 minutes in groups
and pray together. On sunday mornings the Hindu students spend
time in meditation and Yoga which helps them not only in their
spiritual growth but also to lead peaceful and healthy life.

ACADEMIC, SPORTS, SOCIAL LIFE
The students in this home are given lots of opportunities
to excel in different fields such as sports, yoga, and art
apart from mere education. In the field of sports and games
the students from Muthuchippi take part in all the events
organised in the Lasalle School and win all the competitions.
Foot ball is the most popular game among the boys. Also they
enjoy playing cricket.
In the annual and government public exams the students used
to get all the ten top ranks with distinction. Though the
students come from the most backward areas, they excel well
making use of the given opportunities in the hostel.
