St. Joseph's Development Trust (SJDT) was founded in the year 1992 by Bro I. Sebastian FSC. The organization got registered under Tamilnadu State Trust Registration on 2nd April 1992. In 1996, a branch called 'PuthuYugam' was opened at Dindigul to protect the children in difficult circumstances especially those working and roaming on the streets. On seeing the pathetic conditions of the palmera tappers, SJDT initiated Lasalle Neera project at Avudayar Kovil in Pudukottai District to up lift their socio-economic condition. Under the dynamic leadership of Bro.I Sebastian FSC, the organization has grown into a big tree under which, more than 216848 people, living in 200 villages, and the programs spreading in three civil districts are marching towards self sufficiency.

Organization's Mission Statement
The organization, in participation with the grass root level people seeks to serve irrespective of caste, creed, religion, the weaker sections of the society, the women, children, youth and marginalized communities and offer them the opportunities for developing their potentials leading them to have a self sustaining life.

Central Objectives
Governance
  • To establish, administer and maintain quality hostels, day care centres, vocational schools, social service centres and clinics.
  • To further up lift the educational, social economic, agricultural and general welfare of the weaker sections of the society, irrespective of caste, creed or religion.
  • To accomplish all development's goal through the combined efforts of beneficiaries and staff with proper awareness, training and motivational programs
The overall governance of the trust is done by the executive committee which has five members. These members will meet regularly to discuss and determine the policies of the trust. All the major programs of the trust should get the approval of the executive committee.
The program activities of the trust is administered by the executive director. He is responsible for implementing short and long term projects approved by the executive committee. The Executive Director overseas recruitment, annual plan development, donation, solicitation, funds disbursement and the evaluation of the completed projects.
